Other Programs

Base Camps:
Join Meet the Wilderness for a 2 day base camp at Camp Hale. We set up a camp and can provide all of the necessary clothing someone may need Youth Groups have the option to go climbing and/or participate on our teams course. Programs also may include outdoor living skills.

Snowshoe:
Come on a 1 day snowshoe in the Colorado backcountry. We typically head to Grouse Creek or Piney Gulch for the day and snowshoe to a nice lunch spot. We have cocoa, build a snow shelter and have fun in the snow. MTW provides all necessary equipment for the day. Participants need to bring their own lunch, water and snacks.

Hut Trips:
Meet the Wilderness takes a few hut trips to Vance’s Cabin just north of Tennessee Pass. Snowshoe to the hut and spend the night in one of the most beautiful areas of Colorado. MTW provides the snowshoes, food and other necessary equipment for the trip.

Adventure Club:
Meet the Wilderness currently works with the Minturn Middle School and facilitates a fall and spring Adventure Club. We teach a group from the 6th-8th grade outdoor living skills, survival techniques and life skills such as teamwork and leadership. This activity culminates in one of our 6 day wilderness trips. In 2008-09, we are planning to expand this program into two more schools.

Gypsum Recreation Center:
We have partnered with WECMRD and are running and offering climbing programs at the Gypsum Rec Center. Our programs begin in the fall and are completed by late spring. MTW utilizes the indoor climbing and bouldering wall at the center. Each Tuesday and Thursday, an MTW guide is at the center conducting the climbing classes. We ad more classes depending on the demand placed on each one.

Outdoor Living Skills:
Mapping, orienteering, building shelter, fire building are all part of this program. MTW will provide this in conjunction with another overnight or as a school program.

"I can respect nature and encourage others to do the same thing. Another thing is that I must never give up. I can imagine or remember when I was rock climbing or when I was hiking. If I could do that, then I can do anything. Third, I learned to appreciate my family more. I realize how important they are. I'm going to let them know that as often as I can. Finally, I learned that I am so little. God created so many wonderful things. Nature is so beautiful and I am so thankful that someone actually created a program like this. I feel very lucky."
